Because of a few unpleasant experiences with Indians that some non-Indians have had, the rumors or myth that Indians smell bad have circulated, and unfortunately, what goes in the mind often controls the smell that goes into the nose as well.
Indians Do Not Smell Any Worse than Anyone Else
The truth is that Indians do not smell any worse than anyone else in any other culture. We’ve all come across people who smell bad, but it has nothing to do with their culture. Instead, it has to do with their hygiene habits, their living conditions, the foods that they eat, or the chemistry makeup in their body. It may also have to do with an addiction.
To say that all Indians smell bad is much the same as saying that all Muslims must be terrorists. If you were to believe that, then you must also be forced to believe that if you come across a white person who doesn’t pay their bills, then all white people do not pay their bills. To think that all Indians smell bad is prejudicial thought, at best.
Why Some People Think Indians Smell Bad
Some Indians smell bad – just as people from other cultures smell different – due to their diets. Indian food contains a great deal of curry, and this causes a distinct odor that some people do not care for. The same could be said of cultures that eat a lot of garlic, such as Italians. Foods such as this can cause the skin to have the smell of the food that is consumed.
Indians also have different sweat glands than people whose ancestors do not come from desert country. Just as Alaskan Indians sweat less, because of their cold heritage, Indians that originate from desert areas sweat more. Also, in terms of Indians who are still in their originating countries, it is important to note that many areas of those countries are not fully developed to provide for adequate hygiene. This is also true for parts of Alaska.
What Indians Can Do To Quell This Myth
Unfortunately, actions speak louder than words in our world, but only in some cases. For example, if you have a closed mind, you might think that all Indians smell bad without having ever experienced a smelly Indian yourself. In this case, the words are louder than the action. You need to reverse this train of thought if you are an Indian, but in the long run, you really can’t do much about what prejudiced people are going to think or say.

I am indian too and most indian to smell bad. i dont like the smell of northindian gals armpit and dont like the smell of coconut oil applied to unwashed hair for weak with jasmine of south … yea yucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot has been written about their unhygenic living and eating habits but there might be something more than that as well.
Indians are famous for being STOIC, which means that one can never tell about their true feelings and emotions just by looking at their faces. One may never know what is running in Indian’s mind even after spending lifetie with him/her. They are master of disguise.

Indians do often smell like curry – but curry is quite delicious, and it’s proven that tumeric is absolutely a cancer preventative. So dear Indians, – just invite western people and others to eat a lot of curry with you – everyone then smells the same – the problem is solved.

Most Indian people I meet do smell bad. I live in an area with primarily asian people, so I’m around them often. Not all of them smell bad, of course, but the majority do. Even the ones who eat like Americans, and follow our traditions. I think some just don’t try to keep clean?

i met a lot of representatives of Indian country and their culture. 95% of them stink. One was my roommate… monkey-level hygiene… shower once a week… the whole floor smelled disgusting at our school when he was there. I could tell if he was at school or not by the smell. When teachers told him that he smells, no improvements happened. Maybe they don’t smell it, got used to it, i wonder.
One more reason maybe is that their parents marry them by arrangements on a person who is richer and whiter. So they don’t care if they look good and smell nice for the purpose of getting girls cuz their parents do it for them.
Dirty person, whoever he is, does not respect neither himself nor people around. And I don’t respect dirty people also.

If You would like to be respected, be clean, stop eating this stinky shit, go to the shower twice a day and wash your hair don’t put no shit onto it, no cow piss, wash and iron your clothes, change your socks, wash the shoes in hot water with soap and bleach and be clean all around.

I am Indian and let’s admit it, most of us smell bad because of the food we eat. Or maybe you’ve come across slumdog indians, who don’t bath and all. I personally do not smell bad and neither do most of my female friends. Indian men mostly smell bad.

Most of the Indian people I’ve ever met or even walked past smell really bad! I am not racist but it is really the truth. Some of them will have both BO and onion breath.
