Do you suspect that your child is on drugs? Is it possible that you unknowingly have been contributing to his or her drug use? It is very important that all adults have a good sense concerning which prescription drugs are being abused by other adults and teenagers in the United States, so that we can be more cautious about how we store and dispose of those drugs.

Could You Become Addicted to Prescription Drugs?
It is entirely possible that you could become addicted to prescription drugs. It does not matter how much money you earn, how successful you are, where you live, how you were raised or how often you attend church services. The fact remains that if you take any addictive drug for a long enough period of time, you can become addicted to it.
This is why it is essential that you learn which drugs are addictive, and which ones are not. This not only allows you to protect yourself, but it allows you to protect your children as well. You will also know which medications need to be locked away, and which ones do not.
Which Prescription Drugs Should You Be Aware Of?
The prescription drugs that are most abused in the United States include Xanax, Vicoden, Benzodiazepines, Oxycodone, Methadone, Clonazepam, Darvocet, Dexedrine, Ativan, Soma, Valium, Desoxyn, and Desyrel. These drugs may be labeled under different names or brands, but this does not make them any less addictive.
When any medication is prescribed to you, it is your responsibility to find out whether the drug is addictive or not, and how your doctor is going to work with you to make sure that an addiction does not develop.
How to Properly Dispose of Prescription Drugs
Should you need to dispose of prescription medication – even if it isn’t necessarily a drug that someone may be addicted to – you should flush the medication down the toilet. In the case of capsules, however, you may want to open each capsule and dispose of the medication inside in the toilet, and throw the capsule in the trash.
In terms of storing prescription drugs, they should be kept in a locked cabinet or chest that cannot easily be removed from your home. It isn’t unheard of for drug addicts to scope out drug stores and follow people home in order to steal prescriptions that have just been filled – especially if the drug addict suspects that you have their drug of choice.
