There is no safe level of exposure to chemicals that cause cancer.  Even with minute exposures these chemicals can be stored in the fat cells of the body and over time they can accumulate to levels that are high enough to trigger cancer and other problems in our body.  Deadly chemicals that are known to cause cancer are found everywhere in our environment. They can be found in the foods we eat, the hygiene products we use, cleaning products we use and in the workplace or homes we live in.

You should avoid chlorinated water when at all possible.  Drinking chlorinated water can be hazardous to your health if not deadly.  Studies from scientific research have shown that chlorine in drinking water causes a chemical reaction that produce chloroforms and tri-halomethanes which are carcinogenic compounds.  They estimate that the risk of developing cancer is 93% higher for people who drink chlorinated water than those who drink non-chlorinated water. Cancers associated with drinking chlorinated water include Hodgkin’s disease, bladder cancer, and esophageal cancer, cancers of the breast, rectum and the larynx.

Formaldehyde is a chemical that is found in thousands of products. Furthermore it is a known cancer causing agent.  It is used by pharmaceutical companies in medications and in vaccines under the name formalin.  Other sources of formaldehyde are literally right under our noses.  Some of these include insulation, furniture, drapes, carpeting, wood cabinets and other items made from synthetic materials.

There are many chemicals we are exposed to through contamination of the air, water and food supply we require to survive. They can be found in pesticides used on the foods we eat and chemicals we use on our bodies, in our homes and on our lawns. Items we use around the house like dryer sheets, fabric softeners, laundry and dish detergents, disinfectant sprays can also contain harmful cancer causing chemicals.

The list of carcinogenic chemicals is numerous, there are over 800 chemicals that are known as possible and probable cancer causing agents and you may want to begin checking the labels of the products you purchase and use frequently.

The FDA has no legal authority to regulate the ingredients used in personal care and cosmetic products, they can make recommendations but the manufacturers do not have to always comply with the recommendation.

As a suggested general rule of thumb if a personal care product contains an artificial fragrance, it could possibly contain chemicals that cause cancer.  Anything you put in or on your body is absorbed into the blood stream.  Some products that possibly contain carcinogenic agents include shaving cream, after-shave, hair dyes, cologne, deodorants, lipstick and makeup, mouthwash, shampoo, sunscreen, toothpaste and soaps.  If in doubt grab a box of hair dye or your toothpaste and look up each ingredient to see if it contains anything that is deemed carcinogenic.  Educate yourself about the products you are using for the safety of yourself and your family.
