What Is Hydrotherapy?
The use of water to maintain, relieve and restore health is known as Hydrotherapy . In the 19th century a monk named Father Sabastian Kneipp, believed a disease could be healed by eliminating waste from the body, by using water. In hydrotherapy cold is stimulating, due to which the blood vessels constrict and shunts the blood flow to the internal organs. On the other hand heat is considered relaxing and dilates the blood vessels and removes waste from the body. In many cases cold and hot treatment are used together in the course of a treatment.

There are several different types of hydrotherapy and it can be done in places like spas or it also can be done as an in-home treatment.
Types Of Hydrotherapy
A sitz bath is one form of hydrotherapy treatment. In this case there are two tubs of water one cold and one hot. You use one tub to sit in, and put your feet in the other. After some time you switch. This kind of treatment is used for PMS, cystitis, and polyps. A warm water bath is good to help relieve pain. Just soak in a bath of warm water for 30 minutes. You can add things like Epsom salt, mineral mud, dead sea salts and ginger.
- You can use a sauna for dry heat.
- A steam bath is another good form of hydrotherapy. You can use hot and cold compresses to help relieve pain.
- A wet sock treatment is a good way to get rid of sore throats, ear infections, headaches, nasal congestion, coughs and sinus infections.
- Hot fermentation is a form of hydrotherapy that treats acute conditions such as chest colds and it can also shorten the length of the illness.
Hydrotherapy was founded around water. So what is water good for? Water can store and carry heat and energy. Water can dissolve other substances, water can not hurt you even if you are allergic to allot of things, Water is found in different forms such as ice liquid or steam, and water can help blood flow.
Is Hydrotherapy Safe?
Yes it is if the treatment is done properly. Different people may respond differently to the length and intensity of the treatment. Some people may have aches and pains, nausea, chilliness, headaches and faintness. Make sure that you talk to your doctor about hydrotherapy before you start. You may have an illness that will prevent you from using hydrotherapy. Make sure you tell the one doing the hydrotherapy about any illness you may have and medications that you take. Otherwise if you are one that is experiencing pain and your doctor says that it is right for you it sounds like something worth checking out.
