The first thing that you need to understand is that controlling and managing pain with food requires you to essentially go on a special diet, and to be on that diet all of the time, if it is to be effective. If you aren’t prepared to do this, you may as well look to others ways to relieve your pain.

This type of diet is often referred to as the Arthritis Diet, because this is the condition that it is usually prescribed for. However, there is evidence that suggests that this same diet can help all types of pain in the body, even if it isn’t joint pain.

What is the Secret to the Pain Management Diet?

The secret to a pain management diet is beta cryptoxanthin. This substance is found in apricots, oranges, nectarines, papaya, peaches, watermelon, plums, and tangerines. This substance has been proven to help reduce inflammation in the joints naturally, according to research that was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Omega-3 is also an essential component of this diet. Research done at the University of Pittsburgh found that many people who consumed more Omega-3 had an improvement in neck and back pain. Additionally, you should consume grapes because they contain Resveratrol, nuts and seeds because they contain tryptophan, and flavanoids because they slow the degeneration of the body.

Antioxidants Are Essential for Pain Management

Eat plenty of Broccoli, cauliflower, avocados, oranges, watermelon, asparagus, cabbage, tomatoes, grapefruit, and peaches for the antioxidants that they contain. All of these foods contain glutathione which is the strongest naturally occurring antioxidant that there is. This lowers the risk of developing arthritis, and helps those who are already suffering from arthritis pain and other types of pain as well. Also consider kiwi fruit and a variety of berries, as they contain important antioxidants as well, which can help to relieve pain in the body.

While consuming these foods to manage pain, try to include protein, but try to avoid foods that weigh you down, such as foods that have a lot of fat and greasy foods. Talk to a nutritionist about a pain management diet designed specifically for you.
