Once you’ve experienced depression there is a much greater chance that you will experience it again in the future. It is important that you be aware of this possibility and take steps necessary for battling depression in the future. Here are some tips to help you battle depression and its reoccurrence.

Having already experienced it, you know that depression is not a condition that you will simply just “snap out of” and that is it nothing to be ashamed of. It is a serious condition that is caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain and other factors. Depression requires treatment and coping strategies.
Physical Tips for Battling Depression
Exercise, laughter and even sex are great ways to battle depression because they all cause the body to release endorphins naturally. Endorphins are the body’s feel good hormone. Endorphin is a combination of two words; endogenous which means within the body and morphine which is a very powerful pain relieving drug. This is why we feel such a natural high after these activities. Incorporate activities in your daily life which can stimulate the release of this hormone to help naturally battle depression.
Diet and exercise can sometimes go hand in hand. However, when battling depression it is important to be aware of changes in your appetite. Keep track of what you eat and when you eat it. Eat a healthy diet and avoid emotional eating.
Mental Tips for Battling Depression
Part of the problems with depression diagnosis is that it is hard to see the forest for the trees. You need to focus and identify when negative thoughts or behaviors have crept into your life. Evaluate your day, especially when you have a history of depression. Applaud your accomplishments, maintain a positive attitude in what you have accomplished that day and the value you have in this life.
Do not set your expectations too high, be realistic in goals. If there is something you have absolutely no control over in your life do not let it distract you from the things you can control. Concentrate on those areas and do not waste any energy on things you cannot control. All that does is first waste your time and energy, and second cause you to feel a sense of failure when there is no failure.
Socialization for Battling Depression
Socialization is often hard to do when you are battling depression, particularly teen depression since they are more vulnerable as they grow up. Make sure that you associate with people who are positive, people who are not negative. Positive people are contagious! You get a sense of joy, pleasure and appreciation from their energy. If you notice that the people you surround yourself with are causing you to feel more depressed take notice as to their attitude. The same manner that positive people exert positive energy, negative people exert negative energy. If someone is continually bringing you down, you might want to remove them from your social calendar.
