Obstacles during Detoxification

When you have made the decision to detoxify your body your best chances of success are to plan ahead to overcome the obstacles you will encounter during the detoxification process.  By making a plan and preparing how to overcome the obstacles or to avoid them you greatly improve the chances of a successful detoxification for your body. You should be aware that you will have mental, physical, emotional and social obstacles for which you need to be prepared for in advance.

Mental Obstacles during Detoxification

In order to succeed with detoxification you must want to succeed.  Make a list or keep a journal of the reasons you have decided to detoxify your body.  Voice these reasons to a friend or a family member and involve them in your success plan.  Planning with your confidant ahead of time will empower them to help you succeed and when you need someone to talk to during detoxification they are fully aware of what you want and need and they are there for you.

Do not place temptation in the way of your success.  Avoid going to places that have the things that you are trying to detox from your body.  Do not flip through a magazine or watch television that will show pictures of temptations.  Instead acquire a new hobby or take a healthy walk and get some fresh air and time to think about why you chose to detox in the first place.

Physical Obstacles during Detoxification

The body that has become physically dependent on any substance such as food, alcohol or drugs will fight back when it is deprived of the substance.  You will experience cravings that can be severe, headaches, stomach aches and other symptoms that you should prepare for.  Knowing that these symptoms will pass may help you be able to fight through them to achieve detoxification.  Have a plan to deal with the physical aspects of detoxification to help you succeed.

Emotional Obstacles during Detoxification

Moodiness and emotional upheaval are common during detoxification.  As your body is deprived of the substance it has become accustomed to you will experience mood swings.  Learn breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to help you through the emotional battle of detoxification.  Call your friend for that pep talk and be aware that you are moody due to the detoxification and it will pass.  Make a plan to overcome emotional changes and do not let the emotional change overcome you.
