When you get tired, you may automatically reach for an energy drink. There are certainly many different brands to choose from, and you may have tried several. You may even have a preference, and you may even buy them by the case, instead of individually. Have you considered the negative effects of energy drinks?

Energy Drinks Could Cause Weight Gain
The first thing that you need to be aware of is that energy drinks are high in carbohydrates. Many are loaded with sugar. Not only can this lead to substantial weight gain, this can also lead to sugar crashes, creating the need for more energy drinks, which in turn causes you to gain even more weight.
You may think that the calorie content of the energy drinks doesn’t matter, because you have an abundance of energy, which you will work off. Unfortunately, you usually cannot get enough of a workout in to burn off those calories before you will need another energy drink.
The Caffeine in Energy Drinks Could Be Dangerous
The amount of caffeine in energy drinks can be very dangerous – especially if you are consuming numerous energy drinks in a short period of time. In fact, this amount of caffeine can actually be toxic, and can lead to a heart attack, among other problems.
Another issue that few people are aware of is that the caffeine lingers in your system, and this can interfere greatly with your sleep at night, creating the need for yet more energy drinks the following day, when you feel completely fatigued.
Know What You Are Drinking
Many energy drinks have herbal contents, and not all herbs are safe for all people. This is especially true for people who have certain health problems or people who take certain medications.
If you feel that you want to indulge in energy drinks, make sure that first you know exactly what the energy drink contains, and that you know all of the risks associated with those ingredients. Read reviews of the energy drink to find out what problems other people have experienced. If all you need is energy, you might want to look for alternative methods of gaining that energy, such as a better diet or more sleep, instead of an energy drink. Remember that energy drinks tend to have a domino affect, and after you drink one, you will need another one soon to gain the energy that you lacked in the first place. Energy drinks are a very temporary fix at most.
