Stretch marks or striae as they are less commonly known are the result of damage to the skin caused by tearing. They are easily detected because they are different from the normal skin tone. Given time, the appearance of stretch marks can fade but they won’t go away completely.
The skin has a certain amount of elasticity, but rapid changes in size can prove too much, leading to stretch marks. Most people tend to link stretch marks with pregnancy, but it can also be caused by obesity, and building muscles. They are usually seen on the breasts, abdomen, thighs and buttocks, but they can affect other areas as well. While stretch marks are no indicator of health problems, except in the case of obesity, they do tend to cause social distress. Women especially feel embarrassed by stretch marks.
Surgical or laser techniques are the most common ways to remove stretch marks completely. There are natural ways to treat stretch marks to fade them. If you decide to go for more natural, less invasive methods, you must be patient and consistent with whatever natural treatment you use. While they may not go away completely, with time improve in their appearance makes it easier to live with.

1/ Cocoa butter: One of nature’s best natural moisturizers, cocoa butter is widely acknowledged for its ability to promote skin elasticity and to prevent dryness. When it comes to stretch mark removal its usefulness is still debated. Some women have reported seeing improvement when the use of cocoa butter. It may take considerable time for noticeable fading of stretch marks to become evident. Results vary for different persons and some see results faster than others.
2/ Tea tree oil: Applying tea tree oil every night before going to bed has been reported to produce results for some women. The good thing is that it only takes small amounts. The downside is that some people may be bothered by the odor. There are however tea tree oils of different strengths, so get one that is mild enough to suit you.
3/ Vitamin E lotion: This has been shown to be effective in reducing the appearance of stretch marks. It is also quite good for promoting overall skin health. Vitamin E is widely used in skin treatment and facial creams. The key to success with this treatment is being consistent with its application.
4/ Aloe Vera: This well known wound healer can be obtained as gel, butter or extract. For the fading of stretch marks it is best applied daily, and again consistency is key. Adding olive oil is said to increase its effectiveness.

While the above mentioned products are good for helping to diminish stretch marks, using them during periods of weight gain, such as pregnancy, can also help to prevent them. These items are safe to use alone or together. Some people report seeing results from using olive oil, but largely this seems to work best as a preventative measure.
