Did your grandmother kind of hunch over when she got old? Did your mother? If so, this means that they had osteoporosis, and you are at high risk for developing that same hunch – with osteoporosis. There is a prescription medication that can protect you from osteoporosis, but you may want to take a look at natural medication for osteoporosis first.

Calcium is Essential
The most natural medication that you can take to prevent or slow the progress of osteoporosis is calcium. You can get a great deal of calcium in the foods that you consume each day. Milk, cheese, and beans are all great natural sources of calcium, as well as other foods.
Most people, however, do not actually get enough calcium in the foods that they eat for good bone health. For this reason, you may need a good calcium supplement. Calcium supplements come in a wide range of varieties, including little squares of chocolate, which are delicious.
Non-Medicine Treatment for Osteoporosis
There are many things that you can do to prevent or slow the progression of osteoporosis at home, without medication. Start by having good posture. Hold your head high and keep your shoulders pulled back. Your lower spine should be slightly arched. Protect your spine, and keep as much pressure off of the spinal joints as possible.
Also make sure that when you life items, that you lift with your legs, and not with your back. When you need to bend over – don’t bend. Instead squat with your legs, bending at the knees. Wear low heeled shoes, and make sure that the shoes do not easily slid to prevent falls that could damage or break bones.
Ask Your Doctor
On your next visit to the doctor’s office, be sure to talk with him or her about osteoporosis and what you can do to protect yourself. Also find out exactly how much calcium you need, in terms of supplements. Additionally, if you have any health problems, such as thyroid disease, make sure to ask about the safety of using calcium supplements before you start taking them. Some health problems and some prescription medications do not mix well with calcium supplements.
