Natural Herbs to Straighten Ethnic Hair

African American Hair is beautiful in its natural state. Hispanic and Latino hair is also beautiful. In some cases, however, a person may desire to have ethnic hair straightened or relaxed. Before you use harsh chemical relaxers or damaging flat irons, consider using natural herbs to straighten ethnic hair instead.

The Flat Iron Cannot Be Avoided

Although a flat iron can cause damage to the hair, if you want to straighten ethnic hair naturally, it really cannot be avoided. Learn to use the flat iron with care, and as you iron your hair, avoid going all the way to the ends – the ends are the part of the hair that get damaged the worst by flat irons and blow dryers.

Another option is to use a brush dryer. These look like ‘round brushes.’ Be extremely careful with these, as hair can easily become tangled in the brush. Select a brush dryer that has a release button, and different heat settings. You can also use a combination of the flat iron and brush dryer.

Make Your Hair Easy to Work With

Before you use the flat iron or brush dryer, you will need to make your hair more pliable. Using a blender combine coconut and lime to make a natural relaxer. The mixture needs to be left for about twenty four hours after mixing, before use. Apply this mixture to your hair, and wrap it in a towel or a plastic cap. Leave it in your hair for about an hour, and then wash your hair as you normally would, using a moisturizing shampoo and a good conditioner.

If this doesn’t work, try reversing the process – wash your hair first, then apply the mixture, leaving it in your hair for about an hour, and then just rinse it away without using other hair care products.

A Non-Natural Yet Safe Solution

If all else fails, try to wash your hair, and apply a leave in conditioner. Towel dry the hair, and then apply Frizz Ease, made by John Frida. This does not straighten the hair, but it does prevent frizz, and makes it easier to use a blow dryer and a flat iron. Dry the hair in small sections with a brush dryer for best results, using long, downward strokes.
