Yogurt is a healthy choice for either a healthy breakfast or a midday snack. It is important however that you are careful with your choice of yogurt as some are not as healthy as others are. Choose yogurts that are low in sugars and of the plain variety. Check the labels for refined sugars which are simple carbohydrates and they provide very little in the way of nutrition and a whole lot in the way of unnecessary calories. Look for those with low sugar content and a higher protein content that will make it more nutritious and more filling. You can dress up your yogurt for a variety of flavors and textures adding even more taste and nutrition if you make smart choices while doing so.

Yogurt a Healthy Breakfast Choice
Yogurt is a healthy breakfast choice because it is a great source of calcium, iodine, phosphorus and other minerals and vitamins. It also contains live active bacterial cultures which help to fortify your immune system and may improve your life span. Yogurt does not offer as much protein and fiber that is recommended for breakfast so you may need to have a little something either along with or mixed in your yogurt to get the complete dietary requirements for breakfast.
Fruit and Yogurt for a Tasty Healthy Breakfast Choice
Whenever possible use real fruit added to your yogurt, this can be fresh or frozen. Avoid purchasing yogurt with fruit already added because you are going to get a lot of preservatives and sugars which you do not need. Adding fresh or frozen fruit will add fiber along with natural sugars that will not only sweeten your yogurt but provide the fiber to help keep you satisfied longer.
Granola and Yogurt Make a Healthy Breakfast Choice
By combining yogurt with your own personal choice of granola you can alter the taste for variety. You can use any type of fiber you choose, consider flax seeds, raw oats or other types of fibers and grains. These can be either stirred into the yogurt or simply sprinkled on top to add a little crunch and fiber to your morning breakfast. You will be getting the best of both, the many benefits of low fat yogurt plus the fiber your body needs.
Yogurt can be a very healthy breakfast choice if you are smart about your choices in the type of yogurt you buy and in what you add to the yogurt before you eat it.
