Hypnosis can be a great way to help you quit smoking. The important thing to know is that hypnosis cannot work unless the smoker truly wants to stop smoking; if they honestly want to quit smoking hypnotism can improve their chance of success. If they do not desire to stop smoking a hypnotist cannot make them do something they do not desire to do.

What is Hypnosis to Quit Smoking?
The description of hypnosis is a state of being in a deep trance but in some stages of hypnosis you are aware of what is going on around you and you can hear suggestions made by the hypnotist. If a person has the ability to follow instructions and has a fair amount of intelligence they can be hypnotized. It is believed that the higher a person’s intelligence is, the easier it is for them to become hypnotized. The person being hypnotized must be willing to participate, those who are resistant to being hypnotized would be much more difficult to hypnotize. Hypnosis to quit smoking is done specifically for the purpose of implanting the idea of stopping deep in the brains sub consciousness. The hypnotist may give suggestions of the benefits of quitting smoking or of the health risks involved in continuing to smoke.
Hypnosis to Quit Smoking Is Not the Cure
Although it is a great tool to aid in the program to stop smoking, hypnosis alone is not the cure. First the participant must be willing to undergo hypnotism and they must have the strong desire to stop smoking. Hypnosis has been effective in many people to help them stop smoking and it can also be used in combination with other stop smoking aids such as nicotine gum, patches or medications. The key factor that can cause any of these methods to succeed or fail however is the desire of the smoker to stop smoking.
Self Hypnosis to Quit Smoking
There are ways to help strengthen your resolve to stop smoking at home if you have the desire to stop. Relaxation techniques in combination with repetitive mantras or soothing music can help you overcome the urge to smoke. Teach yourself to enter a state of relaxation and repeat the thoughts of being a non smoker to yourself; include your reasons for wanting to stop. These can be mantras about the health benefits or the social benefits. There are compact discs and audio tapes on the market that you can play while sleeping or during your relaxation times to help implant the idea of and the reasons for stopping smoking into your subconscious to help improve your chances of success.
