How to Rebuild Depleted Cartilage

Do your joints ache? The chances are good that if they do, the cartilage is slowly wearing away. This depletion of cartilage can be caused by a number of things, but it is usually due to aging, when arthritis develops. In some cases, it is due to injury. If you are experiencing joint pain, you may wonder how to rebuild depleted cartilage.

Can Cartilage be rebuilt?

Cartilage cannot be re-grown or rebuilt. Once it is gone, it is gone. This doesn’t mean that cartilage cannot be replaced. This process, however, involves cloning cartilage cells in a laboratory. Unfortunately, doctors have not yet found an effective way to get the cartilage where it needs to be in the body. Injecting it into the proper location doesn’t do any good at all, as the body will attack those cells – especially if you have a disease such as rheumatoid arthritis.

What about Collagen Pills?

The maker’s of some collagen pills claim that their products can replace depleted cartilage, but in reality, the only thing that collagen pills can do is to slow down this depletion. In this way, the product is beneficial, but it will not help you to rebuild or re-grow cartilage.

It is also important to know in what situations this type of product will work. For example, if you have injured yourself, collagen pills will not provide any type of cure for you. However if your cartilage is wearing away due to a disease such as arthritis, collagen pills can help slow that process.

How to Prevent Cartilage from Depleting

If you are over the age of 35, you need to start taking calcium supplements. Calcium is essential for more than strong bones. It is also needed to keep the cartilage healthy and strong. You also need to add vitamin D to your diet, or to the supplements that you take.

Also make it a point to take care of your body. Eat well and sleep well. Stretch before doing any form of exercises so that you do not damage muscles, tendons, ligaments, or cartilage. You cannot prevent aging, and you really cannot prevent arthritis if you are destined to have it – but you can do everything possible to keep your body is good shape. By doing this, you are giving your body a great fighting chance should an injury or cartilage depleting disease occur.
