How to Overcome LSD Use

LSD is one of the recreational drugs that are not considered to be addictive because it does not cause drug seeking behaviors in the people who use it.  Therefore the user can supposedly stop using the drug at anytime.  Most people who use LSD will stop its use voluntarily.  For many users of LSD there are long term effects that cannot be changed long after they have ceased using the drug.

How to Overcome LSD Effects

With other drugs usually once you have stopped its use, the effects will stop.  LSD can cause psychoses such as schizophrenia and major severe depression that have long lasting effects.  Changes in behavior related to ‘bad trips’ cannot always be altered and significant distress related to them can remain.

LSD use can lead to unexpected violent outbursts and due to the changes in mental status can cause someone to commit acts of violence that when sober they would never have committed. Severe depression caused by LSD can lead to suicide of the individual.  Counseling may be necessary to treat the effects of depression, anxiety and paranoia that result from its use.  If psychosis or schizophrenia develop it may become necessary to seek psychiatric care for treatment.

How to Overcome LSD Flashbacks

Flashbacks are a long term effect of using LSD.  During a flashback the user will re-experience certain points of an acid trip as if they had just used LSD even though it may have been years since their last use.  Continued flashbacks can complicate the person’s life causing disorientation, stress and anxiety since they have no way of predicting when the next flashback will occur.  Because there is no treatment for this disorder and it is so unpredictable it can interfere with the ability to perform their jobs and function in everyday life such as driving a car. If psychosis and flashbacks are frequent and severe psychiatric treatment may be needed for coping.
