Why Make Oily Skin Masks?

Oily skin can be especially prone to acne breakout, the pores are usually more visible and the skin appears to be shiny or moist.  Hot weather increases this problem as the skin begins to produce more oil due to the activation of the oil glands by the heat.

By avoiding masks that are used at salons or that are manufactured you can help to reduce the amounts of chemicals that you are applying to your skin which can lead to other irritations. Masks made with natural ingredients are healthier for your skin and your overall health as chemicals can be absorbed through the skin into the body.

How to Make a Natural Oily Skin Masks

There are some recipes available for mask that are said to help combat oily skin that use all natural ingredients.  Usually these involve the use of fruits, yogurts, honey and even eggs.  Some combinations that have proven effective for others include:

  • Mix ¼ cup of pureed strawberries with ¼ cup of yogurt.  Add about 8 drops of honey and stir all ingredients until well mixed.  The yogurt can naturally help to tighten the pores of the complexion while the strawberries are a great exfoliator. Honey provided vitamins and other nutrients directly to the skin.  Leave the mask in place for about 15 minutes and rinse away using cool water.  Use twice a week for the best results.
  • A very simple recipe to help tighten the pores and reduce the amount of blackheads you get is to use eggs and lemon juice.  Use only the whites of the eggs and beat them until they are good and foamy.  Once they are foamy add about 3 drops of lemon juice and mix this together.  Apply to the face and allow the mixture to dry.  Once dry rinse away using cool water.  This application will help to close larger pores and leave the skin feeling tightly toned and refreshed.

You can make a Combination or Oily Skin Mask with Ingredients at Home

This recipe works well for oily or combination skin.  It uses fresh fruits and honey.  The use of a banana works to calm the skin while citrus fruits provide an acidic property that helps to move dry flaky skin.  Peel and mash a banana and mix it well with about a tablespoon of honey and add a few drops of either lemon juice or orange juice.  Stir the ingredients to form a paste consistency.  If you wish you can heat this mixture in the microwave, be careful not to get it too hot that it causes burns to your skin though.  Apply it to the face and let it stay for about 15 minutes and then rinse it off using warm tap water.
