Acne Vulgaris is the most common form of acne, affecting millions of people worldwide typically during the adolescent years but has been known to also occur in adults and diminish with age. Acne develops after hair follicles in the skin become “plugged” by excess oil and excessive shedding of cells in the hair shaft. This “plugging” results in the whiteheads, blackheads and pustules that characterize acne. As a result of this plugging, lesions are painful and often appear to be inflamed, irritated, and swollen.
Because of great demand, there are many acne products on the market today. It is important however to see what home remedies may work for you prior to trying a more expensive treatment.
Home Remedies to Treat Acne
Look around your home. You might be surprised at the number of products that you have that may treat your acne symptoms. These include:
• Aloe Vera Juice – apply twice daily to the affected area to help soothe and calm the lesions. Consider buying a small aloe vera plant for your home so that you can have a continuous source of fresh aloe vera to use.
1/ Cucumbers – grated cucumber applied to your face, eyes and neck for several minutes for preventative purposes can do wonders for your complexion
2/ Toothpaste – apply a small amount of paste to the affect area at bedtime then wash in the morning to help dry out lesions
3/ Oranges – peel the orange and pound the peel with water. Apply at bedtime and wash in the morning with warm water
4/ Honey and Cinnamon – mix a small amount of honey (3 tablespoons) with cinnamon to create a mixture that can be applied directly to pimples. Apply at bedtime then wash in the morning with warm water to help dry lesions
5/ Cornstarch – mix with water to create a mask that can be applied then rinsed off to help absorb excess oil in the skin
6/ Fenugreek Leaves – make a paste from the leaves and apply a thin layer at bedtime for preventive measures. Wash off in the morning with warm water
7/ Garlic Clove – apply a small amount of garlic directly to the acne lesion twice daily to help decrease irritation and inflammation
8/ Water – Last but not least, drink plenty of water to help hydrate your skin and flush toxins from your body
So, before you reach for your keys to drive to the store to buy an expensive acne cream or ointment, try a home remedy first.
