Have you ever woken up to a pounding headache, nausea or an upset stomach from an evening of drinking, vowing to never ever drink again? Peppermint – the herb peppermint is used for a variety of sources from helping with a headache to relaxing the intestines. Herbal peppermint tea is known for calming the digestive tract and soothing abdominal gas by removing gas build-up.
Evening Primrose Oil – may assist with preventing hangovers from occurring. Remember that the only 100% way to make sure that you do not have a hangover is to drink responsibly.
Water – increase your water intake when a hang over is present helps rehydrate the body as well as flush out any toxins. This is not advised for those individuals with health restrictions such as heart failure where excess water intake is not recommended.
Bananas – eat bananas which will be a calming food for your stomach. Bananas are also rich in electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium – important resources for our body that are depleted after heavily drinking alcohol.
Tomato Juice – drink tomato juice to help rehydrate your body. It also contains sugar called fructose which when taken speeds up the bodies metabolism of alcohol.
Avoid Fatty or Greasy Foods – avoid foods that will only serve to irritate your stomach more. Ingestion of fatty substances place more work on the body to release acids to break down and digest the fat which can ultimately lead to more abdominal discomfort and possibly nausea.
Yogurt – like bananas, yogurt has a calming soothing influence on the stomach and may help keep symptoms such as nausea and stomach upset at bay.
A safety reminder is that you should never mix drinking alcohol with driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery. These activities should also be avoided if a hangover is present.
