Why You Benefit from Fish Oil

Just as your brain has an opinion about just about everything, your body also has its own opinions. In it’s opinion, Omega-3 Fatty Acids are the most important acids ever to be introduced to the human body. This is essential to a healthy body, but also essential to a healthy brain – for great brain function.

There are two important Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in fish oil. One is Docosahexaenoic Acid, known as DHA and the other is Eicosapentaenoic Acid, or EPA. This is where we get the health benefits of fish oil.

The Difference between EPA and DHA

The difference between EPA and DHA Omega-3 Fatty Acids is the way that they are bonded – DHA has six bonds, while EPA has only five. Another difference is in the way that the body converts these acids. The body converts DHA more easily and faster than EPA.

Any fish oil that you purchase will usually contain both EPA and DHA. It is vital to remember that the DHA Omega-3 Fatty Acid is the most important, and provides the most benefit. This does not mean, however, that you don’t need EPA, or that EPA cannot benefit you – it does. When you purchase fish oil, you should purchase a product that contains approximately 100 milligrams of EPA and approximately 250 milligrams of DHA Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

How You Benefit from the EPA and DHA in Fish Oil

DHA and EPA Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in fish oil benefit the human body by helping to prevent heart disease, losing or maintaining weight, improved circulation of the blood, strengthening the immune system, reducing inflammation and more. It is also effective in the treatment of existing conditions, including arthritis, AIDS, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s disease, Attention Deficit Disorder, disorders of the eye, acne, cancer, diabetes, and ulcers.

Additionally, fish oil is beneficial for pregnant women and fetuses, essential for skin care and hair care, and can improve fertility. Research is underway, but it is the general consensus among experts that fish oil can also be beneficial for asthma sufferers and for the treatment of kidney failure.
