If you suffer from allergies, you know how miserable life can be when you are viewing it through the fog of an allergy. You also know the joy of finding a medication that actually works to relieve your allergy symptoms effectively. One of the best known drugs for treating allergies and allergy symptoms is Claritin, but before you take this medication, you need to have a clear understanding of Claritin side effects.

This drug is essentially an antihistamine that was manufactured for the purpose of controlling histamine within the body. When you experience allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching, it is actually a large production of histamine that is causing this.
What Are the Mild Side Effects of Claritin?
Most medications have a risk of side effects. Some of those side effects are incredibly mild, and others are quite serious. Not all people will have side effects, and not all people will have all of the possible side effects.
With that said, the minor side effects of Claritin include headache, feeling tired, stomach pain, nervousness, diarrhea, sore throat, hoarseness, dry mouth, blurred vision, red eyes, skin rash, or nosebleeds. If you experience any of these side effects, you won’t die from them, but your doctor should be made aware of the fact that you are experiencing side effects.
What Are the Serious Side Effects of Claritin?
Serious side effects require immediate care either from your doctor, or from an emergency room. These side effects include a fast or uneven heart beat or heart rate, passing out or feeling like you might pass out, jaundiced skin, or skin that appears yellow, including yellowness in the eyes, and seizures or convulsions.
If you suffer from any of these side effects, your doctor should take you off of Claritin. Additionally, if you have liver or kidney problems, Claritin should never be prescribed for you. There may be some medications that you are taking that would also make it risky for you to take this medication at the same time. Make sure that your doctor is aware of all of your health conditions and other medications that you regularly take, including those that are purchased over-the-counter. Even if Claritin isn’t the right medication for you, you and your doctor can find a medication that is suitable in treating your allergies.
