The healing power of chakra meditation begins in the mind. The process requires the individual to develop deeper self-awareness, namely in the chakra regions of the body. The chakras are energy centers that should remain open for optimal health. When they are blocked, the person may experience health problems.

Energy
Energy is an important aspect of an individual’s overall health. Many alternative and complementary medical approaches address this force within the body. Energy medicine, healing touch therapy and reorganizational healing are examples of complementary approaches that seek to guide and develop energy in the body to promote good health. Some healing touch therapies engage the chakras to promote energy balance.
The Chakras
The chakras are energy centers in the body. Each center corresponds to specific physical regions. Opening the energy center of any particular chakra can promote healing and balance. Individuals who seek to use the energy centers typically focus on any of seven chakras:
1. Root pertains to the spine. Some refer to this energy center as the base chakra.
2. Solar plexus relates to the abdomen or naval area.
3. Sacral involve the reproductive organs.
4. Heart pertains to the chest and the heart.
5. Throat deals with the neck area.
6. Third eye may also be referred to as the brow, relating to the penal gland or the “third eye”.
7. Crown relates to the very top of the head, recognized as the “soft spot” on a young infant’s head.
When the energy is blocked in any one of the chakras, the individual may experience health problems. The correlation between the centers and the corresponding body regions is significant in the patient’s treatment.
Chakra and Color
Color plays a significant role for many people who practice chakra meditation. An individual may focus on the color associated with the centers to stimulate them. The colors correlate as follows:
• Root is red
• Solar plexus is yellow
• Sacral is orange
• Heart is green and pink
• Throat is blue and aqua
• Third Eye is indigo
The crown is slightly different than the other chakras because it has five colors associated with it:
• Clear
• Gold
• White
• Violet
• Opal
Color can stimulate the energy centers in a number of ways. Some practice visualization while others incorporate colorful stones or other elements into the healing practice.
Chakras and Health
The chakras correspond to specific health conditions, on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level. When the energy center is blocked, the individual may experience health problems and disharmony.
• Root pertains to the spine, colon, legs, adrenal glands, and skeleton.
• Sacral pertains to the bladder and reproductive organs.
• Solar plexus relates to the digestive system, nervous system, liver and muscles.
• Heart relates to the circulatory system, arms, heart, and respiratory system.
• Throat relates to the thyroid, mouth and throat.
• Third eye pertains to the pituitary gland, eyes, ears, and nose.
• Crown relates to the central nervous system, penal gland, and the cerebral cortex.
Opening the chakras promotes energy balance within the body that promotes health in the various regions. Chakra meditation also promotes spiritual well being through in the process as well.
