If anyone ever tries to convince you that you can lose weight by smoking weed, they are either boldly lying to you, or they are incredibly misinformed. Smoking weed does not cause weight loss. In fact, if anything, it typically causes weight gain.

Weight Loss Claims from Smoking Weed
There are those people who actually have lost weight despite the fact that they smoke weed regularly. In most cases, this is for one of two reasons. Either the person already has an incredibly high metabolic rate, or they have an underlying health issue that is causing the weight loss.
When you smoke weed, the THC in the drug causes lots of things to happen in your body. One of those things is an increase in appetite, which is usually caused by everything else that is going on internally. There have been studies that show that when people get the ‘munchies’ from smoking weed, they typically crave and reach for high calorie, sweet foods. It has not yet been determined why this is the preference, but we do know that such foods tend to pack the weight on – not take it off.
How to Combat Weight Gain Associated with Smoking Weed
If you smoke weed regularly, and you find that you are gaining weight, in order to stop this weight gain, or to prevent it from continuing, you either have to stop smoking weed, or you have to make other adjustments in your life. For example, during those periods when you are not high, you may need to eat less and exercise more to make up for the periods when you are high, eating, and not exercising.
The Other Dangers Associated with Smoking Weed
Aside from weight gain associated with smoking weed, there are other health issues that you need to be aware of. You are more likely to get cancer from smoking weed than you are from smoking regular tobacco cigarettes. Weed can affect your fertility – in men and women. Smoking weed also kills off brain cells, making it more difficult to remember and learn, and it also affects the chemical balances in the brain, affecting your moods and feelings in a negative way.
When you add the potential for weight gain to this, you will see that while the high that you get from marijuana may be enjoyable, the health risks associated with it may not be worth the price you are going to pay for smoking weed.

i lost 4 stone when i started smoking on a regular basis, the 24 hour garage was at the foot of a realy steep hill. plus i would be very active with pot, like doing it in the park, on the beach, in a forest on my way to work. yes work, a stoner with a full time job. the couch is not the only place to get high. naked spliff time with a lover will ONLY cause more sexercise. now i have a sexy bootay and am beautiful, i even grew a silly moustach and still get all the attention i could ever want

I’m really curious to know where you’re getting your information about the dangers of smoking pot, especially your claim that you’re more likely to get cancer from smoking pot than from smoking cigarettes. I’ve seen a lot of commercials about the dangers of smoking cigarettes. The lady who lost bits of her fingers, and the guy with the hole in his throat, among others. I’ve never seen a pot only smoker (and I know several that smoke pot like its their job, for years) develop problems as serious as the ones we see for cigarettes.
I’m sure that our government hates the fact that despite their best efforts, more people are smoking marijuana than ever before. If marijuana caused all the problems that they’ve claimed, don’t you think they’d be pushing it in the face of the public, same as cigarettes? Isn’t it reasonable to expect that we’d be seeing some ‘truth’ commercials for marijuana too?
Just some food for thought.

I have been reading all posts and I really feely obligated to post too.(I smoke to relieve pain, no insurance) anyway,
In the beginning of smoking weed you ARE likely to gain from the typical MUNCHIE period.like I did. However, after smoking regularly in terms of times in years and times a day. Ex. 3 years 3x a day. I began to lose
Weight due to not wanting to eat from laziness and loss of appetite. I lost 25lbs in 6 mos. About the same amount of time my appetite deminished. I stopped the pot and gained weight back but because I replaced the smoking times with weight lifting and exercising, I gained lean muscle and I feel better. Quitting was hard b/c I still have the pain but when I look in the mirror, I like what I see.
Point is, you can gain and lose weight when smoking weed. I liked when the weight started to come off but it kept coming off until I became disgusted with my once valuptuos body. I stopped and yes I wanted to smoke but I didn’t! I looked in the mirror with an old pic of myself and kicked the urge. I quickly gained some weight back.my opinion, weed is still good but in moderation. Too much of anything is not good for you. Now I only smoke when I go out which is once every 4 months.

I think what happens is a lot of people are under stress and they don’t know it. When you smoke weed, it relieves stress. Stress makes a lot of people hold on to excessive weight that they don’t need to. So when you smoke and relieve the stress, the weight goes too. This isn’t for everyone, only some people. It worked for me, I went from 205 to 174 (my ideal weight). This happened over the course of about 3 months and I was going to the gym as well and when I got the munchies, I didn’t reach for Captain Crunch, Potato Chips, etc. I would eat but I would tend to do so more healthy. I do believe weed can help one lose weight but I also think it depends on your body and what all one is going through.

“You are more likely to get cancer from smoking weed than you are from smoking regular tobacco cigarettes”
I’d like to see where this has been confirmed. I don’t see any citation for this; otherwise, it’s grossly misinforming.

Regular smoking of it as a medication does make it easier to burn calories, despite eating more snacks. It’s been done, regular smokers do not gain weight as a result in my experience and also if you do a simple search for others experiences online.
The short term memory loss is much less than when you go out drinking, and new brain cells are formed as a result of mental stimulus – this is why smokers become very creative. Once you stop smoking the bud and the short term memory loss goes fully, you feel a lot more intelligent.
