Natural Way to Quite Smoking

There are a number of methods for stopping smoking. Some of the best natural ways to quit the smoking habit include:

Hypnotherapy: As the name suggests with this technique the smoker is hypnotized  and ‘programmed’ not to smoke or crave nicotine.

Herbal intervention: St. John’s Wort is reportedly a good herb to help in smoking cessation. The popular herb can be used help lessen the cravings for nicotine. It is also believed that oats (Avena sativa) can help reduce the cravings for nicotine.

Some herbs can help calm and relax you so that dealing with the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal can be easier. Some of these include passion flower, ginger or ginger root for nausea, lobelia and peppermint.

Acupuncture: Sticking acupuncture needles into certain points of the body has been used successfully to ease and eventually stop the craving for nicotine.

Quitting cold turkey: This method is not the easiest even though it is possibly the most commonly known method. It depends a great deal on having a strong will power and desire to stop smoking. This is a good method to use since there is a total cessation of nicotine entering into the bloodstream.

In addition to the alternative methods above, there are other ways to stop or at least try to stop smoking. These include:

Nicotine Replacement Therapy: With this technique the smoker uses nicotine patches, lollipops, inhalators, nasal sprays, lozenges or gums to get their nicotine fix. This method works by providing less nicotine than can be had from a cigarette. This works as a weaning method in that it allows the smoker to slowly get past the need for nicotine.

Drugs: There are prescription drugs such as the nicotine-free Zyban that is used to help smokers kick the habit.

Low Level Laser Therapy: This is based on the principle of acupuncture, but instead of needles laser energy is applied to the pressure points. This technique is now on clinical trial in the USA for nicotine addiction. Low level laser therapy has however been used for years in Canada and Europe.

Even if your first couple of attempts at stopping smoking fail to work, don’t give up. In fact, studies have revealed that for most persons it takes between five and seven tries before they succeed. So if you really want to quit, never give up. Eventually you will find something that works for you.
