Some people decide to go vegetarian based off of their moral issues with the mass slaughtering of animals for human food consumption requirements, other people decide that the health benefits of becoming a vegetarian vastly outweigh any benefits they get from eating meat. Regardless of your reason for becoming a vegetarian, you are going to need to sit down and decide the best way for you to transition from eating meat to following vegetarian guidelines. Eat person is different which means that there is not one best way to adjust to a vegetarian diet.
Defining “Vegetarian” for You
The first, and most important, step in the process to becoming a vegetarian is deciding how you want to define your vegetarian experience. Incredibly strict vegetarians are called vegans and have restrictions on not only what kinds of foods they eat but also include their vegan beliefs into avoiding certain kinds of clothing and other consumer goods like make-up and body cleaning products that they view as morally impermissible due to their effects on animals before, during or after production. While a vegan lifestyle is a great way to live for some people, most individuals just getting started out transitioning to a different kind of life will find the vegan restrictions to be too hindersome and all encompassing.
Most people who follow a “vegetarian” lifestyle will argue over the meaning of the term. Some individuals take it to mean that absolutely no meat products are allowed to be consumed. Other vegetarians make exceptions, including allowing the consumption of egg and fish products. If you are transitioning to a vegetarian lifestyle it may be easier to allow some meat or animal products that you are used to eating from your former lifestyle until you become more comfortable with the new eating restrictions. Before starting your vegetarian diet you will need to develop a plan that includes whether or not you will be slowly cutting out animal products or going “cold turkey” (forgive the pun) and removing all animal products from your diet.
Starting Out With a Vegetarian Diet
One of the biggest reasons that vegetarian diets do not work for individuals is because they get bored with eating salads or dislike continuously eating vegetables and fruits. It is not a good idea to stick with only vegetables and other greens for your vegetarian diet. For starters, it gets incredibly boring after the first few weeks and causes people to relapse into their old eating habits; secondly, the lack of variety in your diet is not healthy. To give yourself the best chance at success with your vegetarian diet, it is a good idea to find great vegetarian diet recipes that continuously give you a variety of different food options and introduce a lot of different foods into your diet to keep you healthy. There are a lot of sources available online to help individuals find great vegetarian recipes that can help keep them committed to their new diet.
