‘Stress’, these days is the most related word to the people who work day and night for all their materialistic needs. But there are very few who even realize that they are really stressed out and by the time they realize it becomes too late. Man is a kind of machine too and every machine needs to be taken care of regularly and man being the most complicated machine of all needs the utmost care. Therefore it is necessary that we take a look on our health every now and then before the stress takes a heavy toll on it.

Stress can result in various kinds of health complications like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, insomnia and other mental illnesses. Though there are many different ways of beating stress there is nothing that can do well as much as yoga does.
Yoga is a form of Indian exercise whose emergence dates back to some hundreds of years ago. The word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ meaning ‘to unite or to integrate’. Yoga is now broadly in practice in almost all the countries of the world. It does equally good to both physical fitness as well as mental fitness. It also does the job of a weight loss supplement effectively and without any side effects.
What yoga does for fighting stress is really very impressive. Some of the different ways of using yoga to relieve stress are:
Meditation:
This is one of the most effective ways of combating stress easily. Choose a clean and calm place and sit cross-legged with your hands on your knees. Make sure you sit erect but comfortably. Close your eyes and concentrate on any thing which is pleasant, for example, beautiful scenery with mountains, rivers and full of lush green trees. Take deep breaths slowly, but continuously for fifteen to twenty minutes. This chases the stress away quite quickly.
Breathing:
Breathing deeply is also a good way of handling stress. This can be done wherever you are. Even while at work, you can just take a few minutes off for this. Sit quietly and breathe in deeply and slowly and then breathe out slowly. Repeat this for about eight to ten times and see how it feels when you get back to work. This is an instant way of getting rid of stress.
Different poses of yoga:
The butterfly pose or the Purna titali asana – Sit erect and bend both your knees. Let both the soles of your feet touch each other. Place your hands on the feet and gently raise and lower the knees for a few times. Lean forward and breathe. Stay in the pose as long as u can.
The corpse pose or Savasana – lie down on your back on a flat and hard surface. Spread your arms and legs out for about 45 degrees. Maintain the pose for ten to fifteen minutes and breathe deeply.
The crocodile pose or Makarasana – lie down on your stomach and stretch your legs out. Hold the head on with your palms with elbows resting on the floor. Breathe deeply.
The baby pose or Balasana – Sit down with your knees bent. Rest your arms on the floor. Try leaning forward and touch the floor with your forehead. Stay for a while and breathe deeply.
All these are some of the simple ways of reducing stress. However if the effect of stress persists it is always to consult a physician.
