Baby Names for Twins

Naming your baby is a huge deal, and it is doubly huge when you have twins. With twins, you have to come up with two first names, and two middle names. When you name your twins, however, you need to use caution so that your children do not have identity issues while they are growing up. You need to carefully consider baby names for twins.

Names that Rhyme

Most people who have twins will give the two children names that rhyme, or names that start with the same letter or have the same ending. Examples of this are Melissa and Melinda or Sharon and Karen for girls, and Kevin and Devin for boys.

Names do not have to rhyme. They do not have to start with the same letter or have the same ending sound – even if your twins are identical. In fact, your twins may appreciate the fact that they have two entirely different sounding names – especially if they are identical. As it stands, just the fact that they look a like will cause them to continually be confused with each other.

What about Middle Names?

Middle names can also be entirely different. For example, you could have twin boys named Michael Lee and Shawn Paul. These names sound completely different, but again, this plays into giving each of your children their own unique identity. Instead of trying to find middle names that rhyme – even if the first names rhyme, think of middle names that roll off the tongue easily with the first name. These are the names that you will be calling the children when they misbehave, after all!

Your Twins Will Grow Up

Remember that your twins will grow up. They will grow up and become men or women, and they will not appreciate being stuck with a ‘baby’ name for the rest of their lives. Give them names that sound like adult names, with the understanding that while they are little, you could give them nicknames that are more ‘babyish’ as well. Names like Kaleigh and Shaleigh, or even Shyley and Khyley may be cute when your twin girls are little, but when they grow up, those names could be problematic.
