As you’ve probably heard, there are some unhealthy aspects to drinking alcohol, but for the most part, those unhealthy things are derived from drinking too much alcohol. A glass of wine or a beer each day will actually prove to be more beneficial to your overall health than harmful.

With that said, however, too much alcohol can lead to alcohol addiction, liver disease, kidney failure, high blood pressure, heart disease, and a whole host of other problems. Therefore, if you want to drink, but you want to remain healthy and even benefit from alcohol, you absolutely must learn to keep it in control, and to drink in moderation.

A glass of wine a day is great for you. A beer a day is also great for you. A glass of wine and a beer a day is pushing it. People who consume one glass of red wine each day will find that the chances of developing kidney stones are smaller. It is believed that red wine also aids digestion. Red wine also guards against stroke, atherosclerosis, and other diseases. It is even believed that people who consume a glass of red wine each day live longer.

One to two glasses of beer each day will reduce your risk of heart disease, vascular disease, and strokes. Unfortunately, other types of liquor are not thought to have any health benefits at all. So, if you want to be healthy, stick to wine and beer.

The Healthiest Alcohol Brands to be Aware of

Overall, when you look at the healthy aspects of wine and beer, you may wonder if one brand is healthier than others. For both wine and beer, the healthiest brands are those that offer the lowest number of calories per serving. Nothing else really matters past that point. Unfortunately, in the case of wine and beer, it isn’t the brand that matters as much as the type.

For wine, the lowest calorie types are actually white wines, but these are not the healthiest. You should select Chablis or a Chardonnay, and steer clear of Ruby Port. For beer, Pabst Extra Light is actually the best in terms of low calories, followed by Molson Light. The worst beer to drink, in terms of health and calories, is Scottish Ale.

If you aren’t really into the health benefits of alcohol as much as you are looking for a lower calorie drink, and you prefer something other than beer or wine, you should select a Bloody Mary, a Manhattan, or a Highball. Avoid sweet liquors.
