Alternative medicine has always been a powerful source for natural healing. Although there is only so much that some Alternative Medicines can provide, they do help to keep body, soul and mind clear! Here are some therapies that you may not have heard of before, but these have healing properties of their own.

• Destination Spa: Sounds like a location really doesn’t it! However this is actually a spa type, quite common in exotic destinations. Although not directly attributed to medical treatments, this spa is primarily aimed towards improving lifestyle! Well-being treatments combined with healthy eating, gentle exercise and wellness education classes. Destination spas provide an organised plan for those that visit, and are good for those that want to be able to take something away from their experience, and use what they have leaned at home! These spas also offer Personal Training if you wish, including nutritional advice and a plan for you to follow.
• Thermal Spa: Thermal spas or better known as Thermal Spa Springs, are used as a form of hydrotherapy. These spa treatments were traditionally used as a form of medical treatments for any aches and pains, however now they are better used as a “Preventative” spa treatment. This is a mud treatment, also known as ‘fango’. This mud is enriched with natural minerals and nutrients from the earth and combined with natural thermal spa water. They are combined over a long period of time and which allows these minerals to be locked into the mud. These spa treatments are great for skin problems, joint pains, muscle problems and complaints as well as just for deep relaxation.
• Ayurveda: A bit of a tongue twister, this spa treatment originated over 5000 years ago. This treatment is also known as the oldest health system across the world and originated in India. Writings of how it should best be performed were started over 3000 years ago. This treatment works on an individuality basis, taking into account that each and every one of us is different. The main objective of this treatment is to improve the immune system and was originally used to help with diseases and relieve there symptoms. The treatment program itself is very diverse, and each programme is unique to each person after a private consultant has spoken with them. The way in which Ayurveda works is by taking into account the three life sources of the human body known as the “Doshas”. Once these have been identified the programme can begin.
• Thalassotherapy: The use of sea water in a hydrotherapy form to help clean skill and relieve muscle aches and pains. Sea water is pumped into a cleaning and heating system, and then funnelled into a spa tub where it is blasted around you. The natural nutrients within the sea water help to improve skin condition and is popular with those that have Eczema. Each treatment lasts around 20 minutes and in one day there would usually be about 4 treatments. Combined with other treatments this makes an effective spa day for relaxation and skin purification.
