The fitness industry as a whole is growing rapidly – faster than the national average, and more and more jobs within the Pilates niche in this industry will be opening up. In fact, most experts agree that there simply are not enough Pilate’s instructors in existence to properly teach those who wish to practice this beneficial exercise.

Pilates Instructors work in a variety of places, including health clubs and gyms, spas, resorts, cruise ships, and hospitals. They can even become personal trainers and work exclusively for individual clients – usually in the client’s home. Many Pilates Instructors will open their own studio as well.

Although many Pilates Instructors in smaller, rural areas cannot make a fulltime living as an instructor for one place of business, those who live and work in metropolitan areas do fairly well, making a little over $33 per hour. Those who work in private settings tend to earn more than this as well.

Becoming a Pilates Instructor is not hard. You will need training and certification, but many can become certified during a one day intensive program, as long as they meet the training requirements of the certifying organization. Typically, the future Pilates Instructor will start out as a Pilate’s student. From there, he or she will join a training program and spend a certain amount of time observing the instructor. After this time period has satisfactorily passed, the student will then become the instructor’s aide. Following this, the student will instruct a class with the supervision of the certified instructor. All phases of training have a set number of hours that must be completed in order to qualify to take a certification examination.
