Reflexology is a growing field, and more and more massage therapists are learning the art of Reflexology. However, you don’t have to be a massage therapist to become a Reflexologist, and you don’t have to attend college classes for a degree either. Instead, you can become a certified reflexologist with online reflexology courses.
The field of Reflexology has grown, in fact, to the point where there is an association for those who have become trained in the therapy. This association is the National Association for Reflexology, located in the United States of America. The thought and concept behind Reflexology is that every organ in our body is connected to pressure points in our feet, but many people don’t realize that reflexology also entails the ears and the hands, as the pressure points are also located in those areas.
Those who decide to become reflexologist can work in a variety of businesses, including private practices. Other choices include working in the offices of massage therapists, working in medical offices, in physical therapy offices, and even in hospitals. While Reflexology is and can be a career alone, those who practice it find that they are more successful if they are also massage therapists, and they include it as a part of their service.
In order to become a certified Reflexologist, you must study the history of reflexology, the theory of reflexology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Reflexology techniques, the map of Reflexology, and business ethics and standards. Additionally, you must learn how to modify reflexology techniques to account for certain problems or injuries.
It takes up to 300 hours of course study to become a certified Reflexologist through online reflexology courses. The cost of tuition can run as high as $3500, but you can expect to earn as much as a massage therapist, which is anywhere from $40 to $80 per hour, depending on the area you live and work in.
