While there is no career that a person can enter with nothing more than CPR or First Aid training, CPR and First Aid Training is required in many professions, and a person who is certified in CPR and First Aid Training must be recertified every two years. While online courses are available, many of the first aid training online courses are designed specifically for those who have already been certified – offline – first.
This doesn’t mean that you cannot take CPR and first aid online even if you’ve never had such classes before. What it does mean, however, is that some types of industries will not accept certification that was obtained online if it is your first certification, as opposed to recertification.
When you take online courses for CPR and first aid, it is important to find out whether the course includes first aid and CPR, or if it just includes instruction for one or the other. While the two are often blended together in courses, many online schools will differentiate between the two, and require you to take two separate courses.
Many industries require certification that is specialized, such as the United States Coast Guard. This certification isn’t for the purpose of being a part of the USCG. Instead, it is for the purpose of obtaining a Mariner’s License through the USCG. Such organizations have special requirements for training that must be met in order to get the license, and it is up to you to first know what those requirements are, and second to ensure that the course you are taking meets those requirements.
It is also important to note that CPR and first aid training online usually isn’t the same as offline training, as you will not have true practice opportunities when training alone, in an online environment. You must be able to take the information that you have learned online, and be able to apply it to real world emergency situations with ease.
