Because of the problems that we have with young people these days, in terms of their health, many states have implemented a Coordinated School Health Program. This program operates on eight focus areas, and there are many careers that are based on these areas.
The eight areas of focus include health education, physical education, health services, nutrition services, counseling and psychological services, health school environment, health promotion for staff, and family and community involvement. As you can see, these areas really do open up a wide range of career options for anyone who is interested in working with children or young adults.
Potential careers in this area that are possible through the Coordinated School Health Program include teachers, principles, supervisors, counselors, nurses, nutritionists, and more. Even careers in dealing with at-risk youth are available.
The education required will vary depending on the area in which you choose to specialize. However, a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree is usually required, although in most states, you can become a substitute teacher with an associate’s degree. Of course, the average annual salaries will also vary depending on your specialization, the budget of the educational institution that you enter, and the education that you receive.
Just as the healthcare industry will continue to grow, the education industry will also continue to grow. There will always be a need for more teachers and others that are in the educational field, and there is no indication that this will change. Many people don’t believe this, due to teacher lay-offs that have occurred within the past ten years, but this is not due to a lack of need. This is instead due to a lack of funds available to pay those professionals.
This is why so many teachers seek employment in private schools, instead of public schools, but as budgets change, and the availability of funds change, the career opportunities will also change within the public school sector, and private schools are also participating in the Coordinated School Health Program as well.
