In order to become licensed as a Chiropractor, you must have at least two to four years of undergraduate education, followed by a Chiropractic Medicine program that lasts for four years. Additionally, you must pass state examinations, as well as national examinations.

The job outlook for Chiropractors is fairly impressive. Almost half of all Chiropractors are self employed, opening their own private practices. The Chiropractors who do not have their own practices work in a variety of venues, such as hospitals or physical therapy clinics, or in firms that employ several doctors at the same location.

The role of the Chiropractor is to see patients, diagnose their health issues, and then to provide treatment. The treatment involves adjusting and manipulating the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic medicine can treat and cure a number of surprising ailments.

In this profession, you should expect to work a forty hour week. You will work in a clean and comfortable environment, but some people cannot adjust to being coped up in small examination rooms all day.

Since diagnosis is a part of your job, and taking a health history is vital to the safety of the patient, you must also be skilled to some degree in radiology, unless you intend to hire a radiologist. Additionally, many Chiropractors opt to train in a variety of other natural healing methods, including acupuncture. Because Chiropractic care does not require the use of drugs, most Chiropractors are not licensed to prescribe medication.

The earning potential of a Chiropractor is quite high, although the income may not be as high when you first start out – especially if you are opening your own practice. You must first build a client base. After that point, you could earn anywhere from $100,000 annually up to $200,000 annually.

These colleges look very interesting. I’m leaning more towards the New York and California colleges because I can see they have listed acupuncture along with chiropractic education.
