There is a wide range of cause to dizziness. Many times, dizziness is caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure from sitting or standing too fast, when your body did not have enough time to get blood to the head. You can also get lightheaded from other conditions such as colds, flu, anytime that you are not getting enough food or water, and other serious conditions. If there are other symptoms that go along with your dizziness, you will want to seek the help of a medical professional, but small cases of dizziness will resolve themselves in a few minutes.

Vertigo will usually point to a more serious problem in the body. Yu could have inner ear difficulties, migraines, and decreased blood flow in the body.

Symptoms of Lightheadedness and Vertigo

With lightheadedness, you will have a feeling that you are about to faint or pass out. You may feel dizzy, but you will not have the sensation the all of your surroundings are moving around you. You can also develop a feeling of nausea or vomit with being lightheaded.

Vertigo comes with a different feeling in the body. While you are standing completely still, you will have the feeling that everything that surrounds you will seem to be moving. You will have the sensation that you are falling or tilting, which usually makes you feel very unbalanced. Severe vertigo can bring on nausea or vomiting. You will probably have trouble walking or lose your balance and fall down.

Over the Counter Treatments for Dizziness

If there are no other symptoms with your dizziness, you can usually sit down for a few moments to rid yourself of your dizzy feeling. If there are other symptoms such as bleeding or loss of function along with your dizziness, you should seek immediate medical attention.

When is Medicinal Treatment Necessary for Dizziness?

Medical treatment for dizziness is necessary when it accompanies other symptoms that may point to an underlying cause or symptom of another condition. Since dizziness is a symptom of so many things, if you are having more the one spell within a short amount of time, you will want to contact your physician.

There are prescription medications that your doctor can give you in order to treat your vertigo or dizziness, depending on the degree of it. If dizziness persists, make sure to let your doctor know.
