There are some foods that have been shown to have the ability to actually combat fat.  This does not mean you should go ahead and consume all types of unhealthy fat and then just include these in your diet to combat it.  It does mean that if you maintain a healthy diet and incorporate some of these 10 foods that combat fat you may get better fat reduction overall.

1. Water – If your body becomes dehydrated your metabolism slows down.  By making sure you drink enough water to stay well hydrated your body will continue to metabolize fat in your body.  Water is the best thing you can drink to combat thirst. If you do not like plain water try adding a wedge or lime or lemon for flavor.

2. Nuts – Raw nuts such as Almonds or Walnuts have been shown to speed up the metabolism of fat because they contain healthy fats and oils.  The alpha linolenic acid which is an omega 3 can not only help you metabolize fat quickly they can also help you to feel fuller longer.

3. Berries and Fruits – Fruits are not only great sources of vitamins and minerals but oranges in particular contain flavones which help to prevent your body from storing fat.  Eat oranges or drink orange juice that contains pulp. Vitamin C which is contained in oranges increases the amount of fats burned during a workout by 30% according to a study at the University of Arizona at Mesa.  Berries are also high in Vitamin C and for this reason they are included in foods that combat fat.

    4. Tomatoes – The phytochemicals in tomatoes stimulate the production of carnitine which helps break down fat so that the body can use it as energy.  The most benefits are from cooked tomatoes as cooking helps to release the fat burning properties.

    5. Garlic – Garlic contains phytochemicals that break down fat so the body is able to use it as energy.  For best results use raw garlic or only slightly cooked garlic.

    6. Onions – As with garlic onions are known to help break down fat to forms usable by the body as energy due to the presence of phytochemicals.

    7. Peppers – Hot peppers or chili peppers contain an ingredient known as capsaicin which has been found to raise the metabolism of fat in the body.

    9. Vinegar – A few spoons of vinegar a day can give you fat burning benefits of vinegar. The acetic acid in vinegar helps to break down fat and flush it from the body. You should make sure you drink extra water if you are adding vinegar to your diet, since vinegar causes fats to be flushed from your body it takes fluids with it and you will need extra hydration.

    10. Low-fat dairy products – The combination of protein, minerals and calcium found in dairy products help to burn fat. Use dairy products that are low in fat to avoid adding fat to your body especially when you are attempting to remove it.
