People fear that the sexual problems occur once aging. The researchers disagree: the old age has nothing to do with sexual life, but there are indeed several other factors that can influence it. The Forbes magazine has made a list with the factors that influence the sexual life. The first place is taken by the medicines (drugs).

Top 10 Factors Effecting Sex
- Many of the drugs prescribed by our doctors for various conditions can affect the sexual life. For example the drugs that have a diuretic effect, recommended to the patients with heart problems for lowering the blood pressure, can cause erectile dysfunction. Likewise, the antidepressants have their side effects: the decreased libido and even ejaculation problems.
- Heart problems – Those who have suffered from heart attacks or certain heart surgery should be careful when they make a lot of effort. Physicians are best advice givers on how much effort you can make.
- Depression – The antidepressants can affect the sexual life, the same way as depression, if it is not treated in time. The patients that use these drugs suffer from a lack of libido and sexual pleasure. Experts urge those who have such problems to seek medical advice. Only they can dose the treatment so that these problems will not occur.
- The alcohol – While some drink to increase their sexual appetite, the experts say that alcohol tends to diminish the sexual pleasure because it numbs our senses and can even cause potency problems.
- STDs – Those suffering from these diseases can still have a healthy and satisfactory sexual life. The condom protects us from Hepatitis C and HIV, but it can fail to protect us from HPV virus or herpes. The young women can be vaccinated against this virus and the genital warts.
- Stress – If you split your time between a hectic job and an agitated family life, probably sex is the last thing you have in mind. The stress decreases the libido. If you experience such problems try to find a solution to relieve stress. Make time for yourself, do exercises or ask for specialized help.
- The pregnancy – Besides the cases were the women are not allowed to have sex, there is no reason for a couple to abstain. Because the desire may vary, experts recommend using a lubricant. Depending on the evolution of the pregnancy the sexual position will change.
- Menopause and Andropause – The menopause lowers the estrogen levels in women, causing vaginal dryness. Lubricants and estrogen creams may help women at menopause to still enjoy sex. The andropause decreases the testosterone levels in men, reducing the libido. They can solve this problem with testosterone gels or patches.
- A low self esteem – According to a recent study the weight loss of only 2 kg increases the sexual satisfaction in women. Generally a low self esteem can have a negative impact on the sexual life. To avoid such problems, women need to try to accept themselves and feel good about their own person.
- Diabetes – Studies show that 35% to 75% of men with diabetes suffer from erectile problems. For example the high sugar level in the bloodstream, may deteriorate the blood vessels, therefore, it can affect the sexual life.
